A brand-new natural play area has opened at Ballagarraghyn,
Jurby has opened.

Created in collaboration with local charity Isle of Play, this isn’t any typical playground!

You won’t spot a swing or a slide – but what you will find is a world designed to spark imagination and creativity.

Built almost entirely from natural and reused materials like wood, stone, and sand, the play area is packed with opportunities for discovery: crawl-through tunnels that double as dens, beams to balance across boulders to leap between, sand pits to dig in, and raised planters to connect with nature.

This kind of open-ended, unstructured play has been proven to be more than just fun – it can also help children build creativity, confidence, problem-solving skills, and resilience, all while encouraging social connection. As Isle of Play CEO Chris Gregory put it, the new facility is “a space that is going to be their own.”

The opening was attended by Chief Minister Alf Cannan MHK and Enterprise Minister, Tim Johnston MHK, both of whom are also the constituency MHKs for the area.

The opening marked more than just the launch of the play area. It celebrates the development of Ballagarraghyn as a central hub for families in the north of the Island.

With Phase 1 now 90% sold and limited Head Start reservations in Phase 2, the community is thriving – and this new play area is set to be at its heart.
