A new sustainable woodworking venture offering kids and their families the chance to get creative using wood has been launched with the generous support of Hartford Homes.
Wood ‘N’ Craft will offer workshops involving basic woodwork and craft activities for children aged 3 upwards and their families. Eventually, there will also be sessions designed specifically at adults.
The workshops will allow children, adults and families to experience basic woodwork such as sanding, hammering and drilling – then they can decorate their creations and take them home.
Wood ‘N’ Craft founders Laura Kinmond and Kelly Rout-Moore are delighted to receive the support of Hartford Homes with their new venture. They said:
‘The team at Hartford Homes have been brilliant. They offered us the opportunity to collect wood waste material from them and it’s really given us a boost as we start out on our Wood ‘n’ Craft journey.
‘First, it’s great as we can use the waste wood for some aspects of the workshops and this helps us to keep the price of attending the workshop as low as we can, ensuring that more children and families are able to attend across the island.
Secondly, it also means that our business is being run in a more environmentally friendly way, which is great for our biosphere Island too!’
Wood ‘N’ Craft workshops will be held in different venues around the Island so that anyone interested in attending won’t need to travel too far.
The first sessions take place during October with ‘Robot Builder Workshops’ being offered at locations in Onchan, Douglas and Peel. Kids will be offered the chance to create and build their very own robot. They will be using drills, saws, hammers and screwdrivers to build their robot before decorating and personalising it in any way they wish.
While all the sessions for Douglas and Onchan have sold out there are still some places remaining for the Peel sessions on Sunday 22nd October at the Elim Church.
They are also offering pre-school workshops as well as a Wizarding Wand workshop just before Halloween.
