Midwives’ calendar sponsored by Hartford Homes raises £2,500 for local breast care unit appeal
A charity calendar released by local midwives and sponsored by Hartford Homes has raised £2,500 for the Manx Breast Care Unit Appeal.
Staff at the Jane Crookall maternity unit, which launches a fundraising calendar every year, chose to support the appeal after one of the midwives was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Midwife Liz Vipond said: “‘We wanted to do a calendar to honour the team at Noble’s for the great help they gave her.”
All of the 500 calendars produced sold out, with all proceeds going towards building a new dedicated breast unit at Noble’s Hospital. Liz added “It was another fantastic fundraising effort by the staff of the Jane.”
Hartford Homes covered the printing costs, as well as providing a show apartment at its Windsor House development for a photo shoot. Director James Greenhalgh said: “We’re delighted that our support has helped the Jane team raise so much for such a worthy cause. The calendars look great and we’d like to congratulate everyone involved.”
The photographs, which had a party theme this year, were taken by local photographer David Silvester at Studio Colby. They feature midwives and some of the children born in the Noble’s Hospital maternity unit at various celebrations, from a wedding to a first birthday party.
Calendars are no longer available but donations can be made towards the breast care unit appeal through the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group website. The aim is to use the funds to build a dedicated facility with a breast screening unit and a symptomatic breast clinic together under one roof. Building work began in October, with more than two thirds of the £1.5 million target raised.
